Representative David Maloney was elected November 2, 2010, to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives to serve the people of the 130th Legislative District in southeastern Berks County. In his freshman term, Maloney will serve on the following four House committees: Health, Children and Youth, Game and Fisheries and Local Government. He is also a member of the East Central and School Property Tax Reform caucuses.
Having been raised in the Boyertown area and living in the Oley Valley for 31 years, David brings to Harrisburg the experience of a self-employed carpenter who understands firsthand the challenges faced by Pennsylvania’s employers and small businesses. He will also work to reduce state spending, eliminate property taxes and remove barriers to private sector job creation. David believes small and large business job growth is the key to Pennsylvania’s economic future.
As part of his public service, David served on the Oley Valley School Board until 2009, where he and his colleagues were successful in holding the line on taxes while providing a high-quality education. He has witnessed the pressures of public education and unfunded or underfunded mandates and the inequity of school funding at the local and state levels. He is a supporter of a plan to eliminate school property taxes.
David graduated from Boyertown High School in 1978 and has been active in many non-profit community efforts. He is a PIAA track official and has worked with athletes and their parents all across Berks County. He is also active with the PA Game Commission.
David and his wife, Debby, reside in Pike Township. They have three daughters, one son and two sons-in-law. He is an avid hunter and outdoorsman. Fitness and athletics have always been an important part of David and his family’s lives.
The 130th District consists of all of Amity, Colebrookdale, Douglass Berks, Earl, Oley, Pike, Rockland, Ruscombmanor, and Union townships, and parts of Exeter Township, along with the Boroughs of Birdsboro, Boyertown and Fleetwood.
