Maloney Announces Committee Appointments

State Rep. David Maloney (R-Berks) has been appointed to serve on the following four standing committees for the 2011-12 legislative session by Speaker of the House Rep. Sam Smith (R-Jefferson/Armstrong/Indiana): Children and Youth, Game and Fisheries, Health and Local Government.

“These four committee assignments are a perfect fit for me, taking into account my being a father of four children, an avid sportsman, an advocate for physical fitness and a former school board member,” Maloney said. “Committee work is where a great deal of the ‘heavy lifting’ on legislation is accomplished, and I am anxious to get to work and take part in moving bills to the House floor for consideration.”

Responsibilities of the House Children and Youth Committee include interacting with the Health, Human Services and Judiciary committees in dealing with issues targeted to the

18-year-old and under population.

The Game and Fisheries Committee addresses all legislation affecting the Fish and Boat and Game commissions. They also review both commissions’ capital expenditures requiring legislative approval, including game land purchases and boat and fish improvements.

The agenda for the Health Committee, formerly part of the House Health and Human Services Committee, includes taking up House Bill 42, the Health Care Freedom Act, which preserves and protects the rights of Pennsylvanians to make their own health care and health insurance choices.

The Local Government Committee legislates areas that include municipal authorities and codes, assessment laws, intergovernmental cooperation and boundary changes.

Maloney represents the 130th Legislative District, which includes the boroughs of Birdsboro, Boyertown and Fleetwood, the townships of Amity, Colebrookdale, Douglass, Earl, Oley, Pike, Rockland, Ruscombmanor and Union, as well as portions of Exeter Township.
