BOYERTOWN – Rep. David Maloney (R-Berks) today announced that state Route 73 over Furnace Creek just east of Oley has been re-opened to unrestricted traffic in both directions. Next week on Monday and/or Tuesday, weather permitting, work crews will conduct milling and the final wearing course for the bridge deck will be performed under daylight flagging.

“This is great news for folks in the community as this bridge has been single-lane for quite some time during construction,” Maloney said. “Additionally, it will make it much easier for people to get to the 71st Oley Community Fair on Sept. 21, 22 and 23. We are looking forward to a great festival this year!

This specific work being completed is a bridge superstructure replacement over Furnace Creek. When completed, there will be a new single-span pre-stressed concrete spread box beam superstructure with new pavement, guiderail updates, new paint, signage and other miscellaneous construction for a cost of $1,113,221.
