Maloney Announces First Responders Day in PA

September 23, 2022

HARRISBURG - Rep. David Maloney (R-Berks) wants to remind residents that the very first statewide “First Responders Day” in Pennsylvania history will be Tuesday, Sept. 27.

As a result of legislation authored by Maloney and signed into law as Act 87 of 2021, Sept. 27 of each year will now be designated First Responders Day in Pennsylvania.

“I fought for several years to get this legislation passed into law. Pennsylvania is unique in that the vast majority of Pennsylvanians depend on volunteers for fire protection and EMS services, in fact 97% of all fire services in Pennsylvania are staffed by volunteers,” Maloney said. “With our fire and emergency services suffering from a lack of volunteers, Pennsylvania’s inaugural First Responders Day could not be more timely.”

Rep. Maloney’s remarks during passage of the legislation can be viewed in the video box below.
